AUTOCAD FUNDAMENTALS 101 (Application Menu, Drawing, Model Space and Paper Space)

1) APPLICATION MENU

  1. Application Menu is represented by an A Logo with a drop down button.
  1. Click on the drop-down button.
The Application Menu will be displayed.
There is also a Search Box for finding AutoCAD Commands.
  1.  Type the word “poly” in the Search Box.
AutoCAD will find the commands that match with your input.
  1. Click the close Button to exit from Search.
  1. Application Menu reappears on screen.

2) CREATE NEW DOCUMENT

By default, a new document Drawing1.dwg is created whenever you start AutoCAD program.
2.1) Click New
2.2) Click Drawing
2.3) Select Template.
Select Tutorial-iArch.
Click Open.

Notice the preview of the Tutorial-iArch Template.
2.4) A new document is created with the name Drawing2.dwg

3) MODEL and PAPER

3.1) Switch to Drawing1 document.
Notice the highlighted items below.
3.2) Switch to Drawing2 document. (Save your drawing if you haven’t done so).
If you haven’t saved your document, AutoCAD will display an asterisk besides your project name.

Info:
Paperspace is a two-dimensional area analogous to, and having the dimensions of, a sheet of paper.
Modelspace, is a single three-dimensional volume where everything is drawn in actual size.
Modelspace is typically scaled down in viewports and displayed in paperspace.
